Job Summary:
The Vessel Traffic Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the safe, efficient, and smooth flow of vessel traffic within designated waterways and ports. This role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and exceptional attention to detail to ensure the safety and security of all maritime operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor and manage vessel traffic movements, ensuring compliance with local regulations, international maritime conventions, and safety protocols.
2. Coordinate and communicate with various stakeholders, including vessel operators, pilots, terminal operators, and regulatory authorities to facilitate effective vessel traffic management.
3. Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, arrivals, departures, and other related information using designated systems and software.
4. Monitor and respond to weather conditions, navigational hazards, and emergency situations to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of vessels and crew.
5. Collaborate with port authorities, coast guard, and other relevant agencies to develop and execute emergency response plans and procedures.
6. Conduct regular audits and inspections of maritime infrastructure, such as navigational aids and channel markers, and report any deficiencies for prompt resolution.
7. Provide guidance and support to vessel traffic control personnel, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and best practices.
8. Stay up-to-date with industry regulations, maritime trends, and technological advancements to enhance vessel traffic management processes.
9. Prepare and present reports on vessel traffic activities, including performance metrics, incident summaries, and recommendations for process improvements.
10. Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills related to vessel traffic management.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Transportation Management, or a related field.
2. Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations, conventions, and port operations.
3. Proven experience in vessel traffic management or maritime operations, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role.
4. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
5. Proficiency in using vessel traffic management systems, maritime software, and related technology tools.
6. Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
7. Outstanding organizational abilities, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
8. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle emergency situations with calmness and composure.
9. Knowledge of meteorological and navigational principles, including understanding of tides, currents, and weather patterns.
10. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate leadership qualities when required.
